Common Pilates Mistakes before the First Class
At #ElevatePilates, we want to help the community dispel myths and promote education about movement and the benefits of this discipline. Here are the most common misconceptions people have before their first class:
You do not need to be already flexible or strong to start
Believing that you need to be already in shape for your first pilates class is a misconception. At Elevate we designed classes to build flexibility, core strength, and alignment from the ground up.
Arrive just in the last minute for your first class
Showing up right when class begins steals the opportunity of a critical intro window. Making sure to be 10 to 15 minutes early allows you to meet Elevate Studio, the instructor, set up your space, and get a quick orientation.
Do not hide injuries or physical limits
We need you to tell the instructor about your past injuries or recent, if you suffer chronic pains, or if you are pregnant or believe you might be.
This will enable us to prevent missed modifications and unnecessary physical strain.
Loose cloths
Loose clothes such as baggy pants or big sweaters can get caught in the springs at reformer pilates classes. It also makes it difficult for the Elevate instructors to observe and correct your movements. Form-fitting, comfortable athletic or yoga outfits are the best.
Meal or no meal?
Taking part in a Pilates class on an empty stomach can cause dizziness. On the other hand, eating a heavy meal will cause discomfort. A light snack about an hour prior is ideal.
Communication between first-timers and Elevate will be key to getting off on the right foot. Don’t forget that we’re here to help and guide you right from the start on one of the best wellbeing journeys.
